'Doom Embroidery’ your antidote to Doom Scrolling! was inspired by my friend Helen Horgan, when she gave me an embroidered drawing, I realised that, embroidery could be an art object in its own right. I have always collected images and have been hoarding vectors of explosions for years. I thought, what would the explosions look like and what would they do as embroidery? They represent an image of a violent instent moment, while embroidery takes a long time to make, you can see the time it takes to make the image through the visibility of each single stitch.
Doom stitching, the perfect, productive, calming antidote to your Doom Scrolling addiction! Instead of picking up your phone, pick up a needle and thread and spend your time 'Doom Embroidering’ or Doom Knotting! Take back your time with a repetitive, time-consuming, distracting hobby, while making satisfying crafts as resistance art. Using a French knot to embroider explosions and toxic clouds, as a symbolic act of resistance, reclaiming the dispersal of our attention, if only for a short time. The explosion depicts a destructive instant in time, while the embroidery takes time to make, and that time is revealed knot by knot through the image created.
