Shoe Box Gallery is a recreation of the Caspar David Friedrich room at the National Gallery, Berlin in a shoe box. It is about the relationship of the viewer to the exhibition space, and its historical context in relation to the tradition of landscape painting. In this case specifically the German Romantic Landscape tradition and the exhibition space as a rarified, separate space, redused to the size of a shoe box, whch can be taken home and thrown away.
